A case of the Mondays

May 14th, 2007

NHS&W was totally fun, relaxing and inspiring. Big thanks to the Pinko Commie for carting my ass & sharing the same absurd sense of reality humor. The day zoomed by, now it is Monday, and I’m suffering from a bit of overwhelm-ed-ness.

A full report forthcoming, until then, there are photos. And even More photos! Our trip within the trip was highly amusing. Perhaps it was so sad that it had to be amusing. I think I lead a highly insulated existence. The town of Lebanon, NH kind of blew my mind. “Live free or die” is supposedly the state motto, but, what was overwhelming to the point of comedy were all the “NO! this or that” sighs EVERYWHERE! ‘Live free or die as long as you walk in a strait line and wear shoes, breathe only out of your nose and smoke cigarettes whilst chewing gum’
Tho, they do have liggett drugs! The goods, if you will.
I took this photo for you, Mike E

Into the mystic

May 7th, 2007

I’ve been really sparse on the intrawebs, my bloglines are telling me I have 3,780 new items. Holy crap.
No wonder why I feel like I’m outta the loop. I’ve really had my head down trying to concentrate on the things that need to be done in these parts. I know that is what I need to do, still, not fun. I don’t like feeling like a helium balloon that was let go by a toddler at the fair. There is a light at the end tho, one day, things will settle a bit; right? Right???

Yesterday I taught a dye class. It was oodles of fun.. (For me anyway, I hope everyone felt the same way!)
The yarn that everyone made was simply stunning!

From L to R:
Brigette, Jean, Jane, Sandra, & that Pinko commie Sarah

These ladies sure know how to liven up the joint.

(You gotta watch out when I am armed with a camera.)
& I put up a few more shots (not of groping, get your mind out of the gutter) over on the Flickr, in a neat little set.
I’m pretty sure there are one or two spots for the next class on June 9. (Saturday).
You can call the Knitting Studio for the details, 229.2444

Next weekend, NHSW! I peeked at the forecast & It looks like they are calling for rain. Heh. Big shocker, no?
I’m planning on hitching a ride with the aforementioned pinko commie, Sarah (in her pinko commie car) on Sunday. Sure all of the judged fleeces will be gone by then.. But, well, the forecast looks much better, and Amy can only make it Sunday. So, Sunday looks like the Very Bestest day to go!
Expect an update of Pippi sometime soon, to help finance the trip.

if the sun refused to shine

May 16th, 2006

i must be compensating for the abundance of rain via the dyepots. everything has been emerging bright!
i only hope my artistic pleas will be heard by mother nature! in our garden, what wasn’t washed away, is totally waterlogged. (i blame improper tilling. *cough* matt.) anyway, lack of sunshine = poor pictures! but, hey i’ll subject you to them anyway. (and who knows if i’ll even be able to post this, because my host’s DB servers are down… how do i know this? well, surely not by getting a hold of them on the phone, i’ve been calling for the past.. er, good while, and i keep getting “all circuts are busy”.. now, they must have 3.5 people there anwsering phones, since there aren’t that many sites on my server… but, yea, i can ftp, so on with it.)

as i said, poor pictures aren’t going to stop me from posting! ha!

pansy
96 yards bulky thick and thin.

and her counterpart

pansy
thick and thin, hi/lo
plied with a wool, nylon, silk sari single.. from these here batts
120 yards

and for fun! a family photo! (of the pansies, not us)

and if that isn’t bright enough!

pinwheel
(honestly i was going for my ‘first rays of the new rising sun’ colorway here, but, as i said, my subconscious is making things bright!)
80% superwash wool
20% nylon
4oz
500 yards

and a roving to match

a good many ounces there, i’m not sure what i’m going to do with this one yet; at it has 2 spots of undesirable (IMHO) bleed, good enough for me to deal with, but i’m unsure anyone else would be happy with it. who knows, since my opinion is almost always off.
(speaking of my opinion… ok! well i won’t get that into it, but, i was shocked and horrified to accidentally catch some of shrub’s.. er, whatever that was, last night. when you are not prepared to see that ugly thing on the teevee, it really shocks the system. newsvine is all a flutter with it, my politics tag has 200 new entries just since this am. this person needs to be stopped! how much more damage can we suffer.?.. please, some sister, do your country a favor, sport a dental dam. please.)

today begins my plotting and scheming to get myself (sans kiddlets) to fiber frolic i’m using the argument (in my brain) that it will cost as much in gas as it will to ship my yarn there… i can’t possibly wait until VTS&W for another fiber fest. (speaking of fests, i posted a pic on my flickr of the poodle sheep!! that i mentioned yesterday.)

i’m seriously considering permenatley changing my wed. update day to thursdays. nothing in this weather is wanting to dry.(and, well, i need to have stuff wet first, before it can dry… and i’ve been just a tad overloaded this week.) we’ll see how much is done by the am…

now off to find my coffee, i put it down someplace or other, and it has gone MIA. (it was the last clean mug too!!)

new hampshire soggy and wet

May 15th, 2006

as if you haven’t heard enough about the soggy that was NHS&W? (from here on out nhs&w will = new hampshire soggy & wet. ~ it would be funny if, people weren’t being flooded out of their homes. with only more rain to come.) i’m about to add a few more pennies to the pile. (since i added two cents the minute we got home, this makes it possibly a nickel…)
to spite the rain, the lakes masquerading as harmless puddles, cold temperatures, (everything seems colder in the rain! but i hear it was only in the 40’s) the scary drive both hither and yon; i had a wonderful experience.
those of you who read this here blog, know that:
1. i hardly ever leave the house area any more.
2. i’ve been pretty sick as of late
3.i was going with the lone intention of spending time with boogie

i really had no intention of buying a single thing. but, for some reason, the chant angora, angora, angora kept running in my brain. it was so loud i could not ignore it… (occasionally i can ignore said voices in my head, lol). so, boogie pointed me in the direction of the woolybuns booth
where i got a few ounces of very lush angora, and got to make the acquaintance of fellow vermonster norma. (funny, since i’m such a big lurker over on norma’s everyone’s blogs)
anyway!

that bag in the foreground there, is my sweet angora. i have been petting it since i got it.
& all of that undyed yarny goodness there comes from my yarn dealer supplier. i see some tired arms in my future.

anyway, with 4 bizillion things to do, i’ve busted into the angora already.
i made these two batts

ramie
faux cashmere
tinkle
angora
silk sari
hemp

a close up, because they are really tinkly and pretty.

i’m going to resist the urge to spin them and tend to the other pressing matters that need to get done!

i’m wickedly bummed that i couldn’t have done more than a quick cruise of the pot luck lunch huddle. (although, baby-daddy made it into a picture i’ve spyed in blogland, lol) there were a few folx that i would have loved to meet. (but, alas, i am painfully shy, and didn’t introduce myself to anyone.) i did get to meet the lovely mafia and her sweet baby, who has the most stunning eyes evah! and at long last skeintily clad.

it was duck and cover most of the day. in the sheep barn, we saw the most creative entrant for the junior class. a sheep sheered like poodle! the young girl was wearing a beautiful felt skirt that she had made herself! that is where i had the pleasure of meeting linda for a few seconds. totally not long enough!
i would say we spent 50% of our time with the animals. (and 40% of our time at dimitri’s pizza who has the ugilest [on the inside] woman working there. she stared me down for the last 15 minutes we were there, and made me feel like i haven’t felt in a long time. people like her make me remember that there actually are roughly 30% of the population who support the evil dictator resident dubba. who don’t believe in the things i hold dear, and who are just down right not nice.)
speaking of the animals, bells touched a dog! for those of you unawares, bells is as afraid of dogs as i am of some people (re: pizza lady). leaps and bounds for her! they really enjoyed the animals, and it was fun to see bells interact with boogie’s eldest. they got on rather well, and don’t believe a word boogie says about her eldest being ill behaved, she was an angel!! (haha! i jest, because i do know the many facets of child behavior!)

if you saw

this head of hair (terrible roots!!) attached to shivering lips; that was me.
i suppose i should have posted a pic before the event, so in case you wanted to hide from me, you could have.

wow! i’m just full of some words today!
how about survivor last night? i’m so happy aras won. yes, yes i am.

now to get on with my stuff that needs to be done.

soggy! but perfect.

May 13th, 2006

we are home from nhsw.. my feet are still soggy. good thing i wore my flannel lined pants! it was pretty raw, compared to the beautiful weather we have been having.

aside from all that, i had the most wonderful time. i got to spend a day with boogie & her eldest. very perfect that contoocook is nearly the exact half way meeting point. it is a beautiful thing when you meet someone you have grown close to in this crazy online world, in the FLESHES. i didn’t cry, like i thought i would. (although, i feel like weeping now, lol…) anyway, i’ll stop getting really sappy now, for fear of seeming just a bit too freaky.

more tales later, as i need to have a cuppa (yes! at 7pm!). no pictures, tho, i wish i would have taken one of the woman who was working at the pizza joint we went to, who was not only giving me the hairy eyball/DEATH ray, but she also must have thought i had 3 heads… (i suppose that is what you get for having bright pink hairs and wild children….) lol.

fibery!

May 10th, 2006

in case anyone has ventured over from pippi wondering where my update is, it will be up tomorrow; if all goes well. sometimes one just needs to roll with the punches life throws out at you.

ok! i said i would be back with some fiber chatter! here it is!
i feel like i’m finally getting along with my woolhouse
it puts the joy back into making bulky thick and thin yarns, to have a good relationship with one’s bulky wheel.

dear prudence
purples, browns, greens, and blues of all shades and hues..
(a real looker if you ask me.)

i loved sea glass so much, i tried to recreate it in a wool.
(ever try that? impossible, but i think i got the “feel” of it)

surf
kettle dyed with 5 different shades of green. ranging from nile green to teal.

and the sock yarn that wasn’t dry for yesterdays posting.
(this is the one where i got bumped in the arm, and some of my brown wound up on my blue!)

sringtime choco bird

lace wt superwash.

80% wool

20% nylon
not such a bad recreation.
i really thought i was sick of that colorway, after doing it for years… but, no, doing it in yarn has breathed a bit of life back into it.

all this and more, tomorrow, in my shop

this won’t be ready in time… but
1 out of 1 nakey trolls with hair wraps agree

this is bound to be 2 ply.
(or as lorene calls it
“pippiplied”
:) )

alas!
lets talk nhsw!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!
i’m totally elated i’m going to meet boogie IN THE FLESH!!!!!
words can’t express it!
and the femknit mafia will be there.
roll call, who else!?!?!
linda!?!?!

alrightey then! i should clear a path from here to the kitchen so i can start the dinner thing!
