Popping my head up again!

June 29th, 2007

This week I’ve been working the coil/knot yarn chapter.
Some of the techniques, I’ve been taking more of a step out approach.
Not for this one…. I just kept going, and going, and going.

Fiona
10 yards
2 ounces
Wool with copious amounts of recycled silk sari and nylon tinkle (with some mohiar for good measure.)

This was my Fiber Friday for today. (I haven’t participated in eons… Oy, the guilt.)
The topic was Enchantment. (This totally reminded me of Fiona in Shrek.)

With any luck, this will be headed off to the land of Oz, into the hands of a master; later next week.
Cross your fingers…
And shuuuuuuuuush. You didn’t see me here on the interwebs.

freshened up!

October 13th, 2006

Like a little nose powering….
the shop has been updated!
i’ve added:

2 2ply yarns
1 2ply blend
and 1 arty/novel type
2 new colorways (4 hanks) of hand painted superwash sock yarn

you can view everything in the shop using this link or you can see everything that is new

Enjoy!

That seemed to take longer than normal. Too many distractions!

While i was at it, the kids managed to test some nuclear weapons or something. The whole place is Trashed!! :/

booze bag in the houuuuuuuuse

August 9th, 2006

and i don’t mean me (although, some very well may disagree! hehe)

the pattern for the booze bag is up over on knitty
i made a few others, from handspun..

it took under 100 yards of x-bulky (roughly 80)
& i modified the pattern a bit.
i have another one that i’m trying to get finished out of regular bulky thick and thin, but, i’ve been so caught up in this, that, and the other, that i put it aside and forgot about it.
when i was working on the pattern to go with the coil article, i saw how i could take this basic idea, of the eyelets, and really run with it. hats, bags, belts… (my first idea was a belt, being for the summer issue and all…. but, i wasn’t able to find notions i was happy with in time…) it will be fun fire side knitting come this winter.

now, go! make one!

super dooper!

July 5th, 2006

whoppeee!
the new issue of knitty is up.
and i happen to have a coil spinning tutorial up.

so everyone who comes here looking for “how to make coiled yarn” “plying coils” “making coils” “spinning coils”; your search is no longer moot.

i hope you like it and pick up a trick or two.

it was later than i thought, when i first believed you…

July 2nd, 2006

whoever said rice milk was just as good in coffee as half and half,
is a LIAR! lies, lies, LIES!
i can not believe that i was veg*n for 6 years. depriving myself of good yummy dairy.
but good gawd, should i be drinking coffee at this hour?
anyone remember what happened last time i drank coffee later than 6pm?
um, yea…
i just have so.much.stuff.to.do.
coffee seems like the only solution! ha.
all of a sudden it is the first week in july, and i’m not ready for it to be the first week in july.
(for those of you not in the know, more will be revealed on a need to know basis. heh…)
it involves lots and lotser of these

anyway, so yea, why am i blogging on a sunday evening, especially when i’m in the weeds?
i don’t know.. i’m thinking? and it is so nonlinear if i tried to make a list it would consume my whole note book. (that, and i accidentally washed [and DRIED] my orange crayon!~ you should see the dryer! aye!)

yesterday, i did something really unusual, i cleaned. (don’t fall down from the shock.)
my kitchen is drop dead sexy clean. the only thing that would make it even sexier would be if the man would have cleaned it.
i’d take a picture, but it is cluttered again and i splattered dye every which way today. cluttered, but still clean.
also yesterday, i got a lovley package from linda of stoneleafmoon fame.

a lovely bright bubble-gum pink angora batt (YUM!)
and a silk hankie… (hahaha, a hankerin’ ~~ inside joke, there.)
anyway, it will be interesting to see how on earth i spin that hankie up.
thank you linda! you made my week!

yesterday was a crazyday… we took the kids to see the fireworks. woo! boom!
finchly the younger, love the shiznt.
bells, on the other hand, covered her ears and declared “it’s over, let’s go home” no fewer than 50 times. i should mention that this is the first year she has been able to sit thru the whole thing. (sensory issues.) it was fun, but i don’t know what were worse the ’skeeters or the bats!

another fact of recent history, stella won the t-shirt contest.
her pirze is going to be something that she admired from my page, but they sell out lickety split. some nightfall of diamonds batts
how awesome is stella that she found a stream from that 3 night run amazing stuff folx. and no coincidence, the stella blue from that night is beautiful. melt your face beautiful… in another coincidence, this is was the first contest i ever “held” and it was stella’s first contest ever won!
i love coincidence. they are like road signs… (it is actually how i wound up living here in vt for the past er, 10+ years. that and a bottle of sake and a camp fire. ahh, sake, how i miss ye. and i miss the guys i moved up here with.. but that is another story.)
i digress, since stella found that show, i went and found this my first show.
an amazing show. i wonder if my first show wasn’t so freaking magical, would i have got on the bus and stayed there until very near the end? who knows?

anyway! go listen!

well, i’m being really too chatty for someone who has alot of stuff to be doin!
so, if you see me in any of the usual places, like trilian; eljay, kindly remind me that i have stuff to be doin!

now, i have to go see mr. walker, he has been askin about my whereabouts for over an hour now.

large! update!

April 12th, 2006

the handpun yarn shop has been updated with 16 yarns of all shapes and sizes

7 art yarns

3 2ply blends

and
6 bulky thick and thin singles

i even managed to do a good recreation of no foolin
a bit different, but cool, none the less.

fennario

putting that update togethere took me all day, now it is time to hit the yard with the kiddlets

more adventures in silk sari.

April 6th, 2006

i’ve gone to the other side.
there is no turning back now.
the proof,
the marriage of three of my obsessions

bizarre love triangle
tinkle
coils
silk sari

and another sari yarn,(further evidence)

i guess i could stand to buy another pound of this stuff, granted it is pricey, and smelly.. i don’t think i talked about the smell of gasoline that it has, have i? well, yes! it took alot of washing! cigarette butts, peanuts, wood, and some UO’s. it’s all good, this stuff is the prettys!

empress dork

March 28th, 2006

it is no secret that i’m a big dork, further evidence is the joy i’m getting from my new 1″ buttons from MYMY (FYI, they will be re-open on friday.)

and to bring my dorkatude to new heights, i made new matching yarn!

it is also no secret that i love making coils

another not hidden fact about myself, is that i love pink. and pink + black is my new favorite combo.
(it would have been my new hair color, if the pink would have turned out better….)

i’ve been trying to stick to a list type situation, you know, crossing off tasks, etc.
that lasted one day. i failed miserably at it yesterday.
i have a bunch of stuff to be getting done tho, like playing domestic revolutionary and getting this stack of dishes done.
i also need to work out a better spot to take photos. i’ve been incredibly unhappy with the way they have been turning out lately.

it is supposed to be decent, weather wise, again today. i suspect there will be much running in and out of the house by the youngins and much mud on my floor.
