Sit down, pour yourself a cuppa, and pass me the earplugs, will ya?
I’m awaiting a propane delivery, so I can get some dyeing done. Until then I figured I’d flash the latest things to come off the needles…
More Mitts.
<img xsrc=
3.2 oz 2 ply handspun,
hand dyed, hand cleaned Montadale x Leicester & nylon
with a ply of handpainted domestic

DK wt. on US 3s & 5s

Mr.Pippi heckled them. (But he always heckes my knitting, I hardly every pay any mind to it…)Saying they were too pointy and the thumbs looked like sausages.
Next pair, I’ll go with the afterthought thumb. Thanks Mr. Pipps!

And to prove it hasn’t been all mitts all the time here over at the love shack

Some fulled slippers in Noro Kureyon #88 on US 10s
I tried to get a photo of them in their natural habitat, but, urggg.

And, (yep, one more!) I got on the bandwagon…
Calorimetry from Knitty

I made a few changes..
I cast on 98 st with a handspun DK wt. single on size US 2s (yes, you read that right, US size 2)
I really love the button… Of course, it is from Moving Mud.
I tried my best to get a good close up of it.

Curse you flash photography!
*shakes fist at sky*

Today is my kick off of Project Spectrum V 2.0

Three cheers for Lolly!
I’m normally not a big -along-er, but, I loved the first version and I’m back for more!!!

Have a happy Groundhog day!
I heard the when he came out he made a comment about global warming.

a labor of love

June 13th, 2006

sometimes you gotta do it.
every once in a while, you have to spin something so incredibly labor intensive; just because.
the yarn that i’m about to show you is just that type of yarn.
it took me upwards of 14 hours to create. (and i use the word create here instead of make, for a reason…)

i took the rest of these batts

and spun them into this yarn

then i dyed some of my churro, blended it with copious amounts of green and silver tinkle, then blended that with some blue hemp noil batts that i swiped from my page.

i really love love love spinning my batts. i rarley toot my own horn (maybe i should?) but, i do honestly believe my batts kick some serious ass.

then i took these parts, which, were delicious enough on their own

out of many one

a labor of love; happy yarn
316 yards lace wt
(apx 18 WPI)

now, this yarn isn’t what one would call “special” and could not “retail” for upwards of $140 (but how does one put a retail value on love?)
it has no bells or whistles, no coils or bobbs, it won’t self stripe.. like i said not anything really “special” about it.
well, that is unless you are me. (hah)
the sum of it’s parts is what impresses me.

  • hand washed & hand dyed fleece
  • hand dyed commercial top
  • hand dyed nylons
  • hand dyed hemp (and dyeing hemp takes just a wee bit more effort than dyeing wools..)
  • hand dyed silk noils
  • angora
  • recycled silk sari

i think it is the perfect union of art and craft. (tho, it clearly isn’t an “art yarn” type)
that is the beauty in all handspun yarns. weather they be pushing thresholds for the outside world, or pushing thresholds in our inner realms. what a great gift bestowed on us fiber artists.

i’m not sure if i pushed anything inside myself with this yarn (maybe i did… just how many different types of unlikley fibers could i jam into one yarn? ha). i did fulfill some desires tho. the desire to grow my stash, perhaps? the moral of the story….. every once in a while, you gots to do for you….

but now i gots to get back to the business of making handspun yarn.

time to stich n’ bitch (ooh, should i be on the lookout for SFSE?)

March 15th, 2006

i finished my yarn for Blythe

it is sooper snazzy

lots of silk, mohair, and tinkle

17/18 WPI

my biggest quandry is, what on earth i do with this yarn

i’m just clueless.

i’m not too fond of it, there is a day i’ll never get back.

i’m hoping that if i use it, i might like it.

it is sooper textural, silk noil, with tinkle and a daub of wool.

156 yards of bulky wt.

today, i’m on the edge of my seat, waiting for UPS to bring me my new cards, and hopefully some wool. (please, oh please, wool get here!)

i thought i would share this great picture that Kay sent me, of her cat Dub.

Like dub music, she’s missing some parts (tail, toe, end of her ear). We think she was attacked by rats when she was a kitten before we found her. She’s more than made up for her traumatic start. She huge.

headachey saturday!

February 4th, 2006

we are having another crazy spell of freaky warm weather.
it should not be 45 at 5pm, in February in VERMONT! i swear, it is really freaking me out!

i supn myself some new favorite yarn.

i don’t know what is going to become of it, it will just go into my stash, until i can’t keep my hands off of it.

and i’ve been like a maniac in the dyepot, this is what i did last night.

i managed to recreate ‘liberty’ or maybe even better. i’m enthused in the dyepot reigion latley. yay.

also!
some new yarn at cut+paste

thank you ms.cut+paste for the beautiful photos.
