hot pot of coffee!

May 30th, 2006

wow! long weekend. i barley even noticed that today was tuesday, i’ve been so engrossed with this that and the other.
plus, my pee cee is having some issues. oh, the horror.(blue screen of death has been showing it’s face.)

i’ve got tons of stuff to try to manage to get done in the coming weeks. i should know better than to try to take on more than i can chew; but it seems to be my style. i’m thinking i won’t be doing a shop update this week. i’m a bit too busy planting some seeds. (both literly and figuratively.)

on today’s agenda, i’m going to spin these batts up.

they are navajo-churro, silk sari, angora, nylon, a touch of falklands and a dash of silk noil. (have to use up the pile of noils someplace, right?)
i hope that they are going to be part of a hi/low yarn, if all goes according to plan.

hum, so all this talk of plans and seeds and chewing. am i doing some top seekret ‘yarn spy’ stuff? (thanks jorgi for the “yarn spy” name, i love it…) well, nothing too skeetret, i assure you; but fun none the less. but, i give you my “yarn spy” photo.

thank you all who gave me input on which photo to send… (i sent in #1 and this is #2. my reasoning; with all of photo #1’s flaws, i think i look more empowered.) don’t know what i’m talking about? well, more will be revealed, later.

in one note of scary, matt took the kiddos down the road to a kid friendly swimmin’ hole the mad river. when they got home, i was greeted to bella talking about how she was okay, alive, yada… well, seems she went in a bit too deep. the extent of just how serious this incident actually was, was leaked out slowly. both from her, and her dad. apparently she could have very well have drowned. she took in lots of water and was puking…. i’m so glad i wasn’t there as i would have lost my shit. good thing for quick acting dads. she had a very restless sleep (well, duh.) it seems to be i need to get the kids in some swimming lessons for this summer. or somethin.

ok! i should get to work; too hot to do dyeing tho, that’s for sure! and the ac is still in storage

another addiction! i need MORE!

i am compelled to use up all of this recycled sari asap, apparently. i just can’t help myself.
even tho, i’ve found some incredibly strange things in it, like peanuts! not to mention, it is chock full of wood chips.
but, it is fun and colorful! it is a good exercise in messing with my color palate that i have in my brain.

some more fun things i spun.

a close up to spy the two little sections of coil-y-ness.

and

made with recycled wool & recycled sari.
recycler
an obvious name for it.

i have a bunch of other things that i’ve been procrastinating on; this week is the week to do them!
my mom visits thursday, so hopefully she can entertain the youngins while i get some serious work done.

i have two important ‘announcement’ type things too, today.
first, the lovely Shannon Okey NEEDS OUR HELP!
grab your sticks and string people!
from shannon:

I’m project-editing two new books in the Lion Brand “Just…” series published by Potter Craft. (Potter Craft brought you Amy and Jillian’s brilliant Big Girl Knits, which posted its very own Big Girl Knits 2 CFS to the Knitty designers’ list yesterday — official CFS weekend event #2!)
In this case, I’m editing Just Socks and Just Gifts. Other books in the series have included Just Scarves and Just Hats. Each book will feature 30 patterns, which can be knit or crochet. Just Socks features…well…socks
and Just Gifts includes quick little projects of all descriptions.
We’re working on short deadlines here, so if you’d like to submit,
please send an email to me before the 10th with the following information:

  • A detailed description of the pattern, with sketch or photo if possible
  • Previous design experience, if any
  • Will you be able to knit or crochet the project by mid-May?
  • Can the project be knit or crocheted in Lion Brand yarns? Which?

That should suffice for right now. As I mentioned, the deadlines
will be pretty tight. We’re aiming to have all finished items to me by
mid- to late-May, so the tech editors can get to work pronto. Designers
will be paid, and you’ll receive yarn from us to make your item if
accepted.

my forays in knitting have been unadventurous and futile lately.
i wanted to make a special person, some slipper socks; using this yarn, (’i caught you a delicious bass’) that came from these batts but it just isn’t working.. they are working up far too large, and i’m not clear of the felt-y-ness of the yarn.. (here is the one instance where a felted swatch wouldn’t help in the least, since the fiber content is utterly random…)

i suppose i’ll make some new yarn, in ‘her’ colors, i just hope that it won’t take away from the ’special-ness’ of the project.
(i suppose, it is all about intention tho, right??)

i’ve had some adventures in the land of silk noils.
lets just say, i won’t be doing much more of it, any time soon…

too textured for my taste.

and hard to capture!

but you can clearly see it in batt form.

(45% silk noil, 45% wool, 10% nylon)

in other news, i chopped off a few pounds of hair last night.
i’m a baldhead again. (well, not totally bald; it is about 1/4 of an inch long, except for what used to be bangs.)
it is cute and butchy and i love it. it is especially fun to touch.
it makes me feel a bit spunky, like 30 again!

today is the day i need to get to the grocery and that jazz.
it would be really nice to play a round of disc golf but it looks like it may rain.
(then get cold again) boo-hiss winter! c’mon spring!

you make me SWOON!
