A Snail’s Pace

June 11th, 2007

Things are still creeping along over here…
The longer I stay away from the blog, the harder it becomes to get back with it.
Fortunately, I’ve regained my sense of humor. Everyone around here is happy about that!
There is way more to do around here than one person (well, if that person happens to be me) can deal with.
But as with anything, it is one foot in front of the other.

I’ve been spending a TON of time on the flickr. I think I’ve been sucked in so heavily because, as they say; a picture says a thousand words. Apparently, I have alot to say, but I’ve run out of the words to do so. heh.

None of the above

I’ve been at a loss for words as of late (Imagine that!)
It seems I don’t have the vocabulary to describe the rollercoaster ride I’ve been on. Humph. For a Gemini, that is something, now isn’t it?

Half of 70

June 1st, 2007

Life is zooming by.

I’m making a list, or as Mz J calls it a WTF list. (or Why The Hell Not list )
Things I want to do before I’m 70 (She’s going for 50, but I’m slow. It takes me forever to get anything done)

1. Spend a season at Everest BC
2. Hike the AT
3. Hike the long trail
4. Write a book (or, not let the book I am writing kill me)
5. Build a zero impact home with my hands
6. Live each day with love, creativity and compassion

That is all for now. (heh)
As for today, I’m going to clean house. Literally. The place is a sty. Might as well start the new year off on a fresh page.

Or obsessed…….
Since the weather broke, all I want to do is be outside.
Mostly I sit squat with my coffee and watch the garden grow.
It’s pretty interesting.

So I tend to take my camera out with me. That of course leads to some borderline OCD behavior with the flickr.
I even created a new garden group, We Grow Food! (so if you do, join, why don’t you?)
That teeters on my other obsession about obsessing about (meta obsession!) my relationship with food, specifically food as a consumer product. Money for food, Growing food and eating food. (humm, I never realized what a funny word food is until I just typed it out six times… Say it 50 times slowly, then try to tell me otherwise.)
Food, we all use it.

Apparently, it is also a good distraction. Keeping me otherwise not focused on the things I need to do.
(Speaking of that, I have yet to update the sidebar with the reciprocal links I spoke of in my epic the other day. I will get to it! I swear!)

Now, I must get back to my garden squatting, before I miss something.

My mind was wanderin’ like the wild geese in the west

Three Posts in four days, I’m going for a new record! (Or I’m deep within the throws of some mania, you decide.)
What’s first? How bout a skunk stench update? I’ve determined, from a bit of research and your comments, that the bugger didn’t spray in the mudroom, but someplace outside. The odor inside dissipated quickly with some open windows & a quick wash of the mudroom floor. The bulk of the stench came from the back of the house, near the open window where my son was sleeping that night. Putting two and two together like such, me thinks the skunk met a raccoon or even a fisher cat. Either way, the headache inducing smell was gone by 3pm. Yay. Thanks to all for sharing your sage advice, helpful hints and empathetic stories!
More with the wildlife, but in the less smelly department… I was out in the garden, moving some of the renegade cilantro (which, we have a-plenty.) And a noise snapped me out of my zone, looking up I saw a goose family! Trying my best to be graceful and slick, (HAR!) I made a dash for the front door to retrieve my camera from inside, only to find that the kids had locked me out (a favorite hobby of theirs.)
By the time I got back outside they had made their way up Naked Sledding Hill.

AWWWWWWWWWW! Babies!!!!!
(That slope sure has filled out with green, in only a matter of 18 days. Spring is so amazing!)

Something else amazing, the view from just a bit more up that hill…

Taken just a bit after sunrise yesterday & I had every intention of posting it yesterday for my Saturday Sky.
Better late than never! (Right? Maybe?? Perhaps?)

More with the better late than never. (I suppose I’m having issues with transition this morning.)
I’ve been tagged with that viral things meme…. More than once, first by Dianna, when it was 8 things, and now by Deb, and it is down to 7 things…. (I’m only doing it so I can tag Mz. J, cuz she needs to update that *&($#!!&* blog)

Ahem. the rules:
1. Each player starts with 8 random facts about themselves.
2. People who are tagged write a blog post about their 8 random things and post the rules.
3. At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and post their names.
4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

1. I have a collection of Grateful Dead ticket stubs numbering in the triple digits. That means, I’ve seen them a bunch. ha.
2. I have terrible posture. My Nana would always tell me to sit up straight, I never listened.
3. I’ve never had a pedicure
4. I like both coffee and tea (I drink copious amounts of each)
5. I’m excited about turning 35
6. I have an obsession with Chomolungma. I get OCD during the climbing season and check Explorers web daily for updates. (Sadly they don’t have RSS, and I have to check manually.)
7. I’m currently fixated on the Appalachian Trail, I don’t think I’ll get around to doing it anytime soon, as it costs about 4k and takes 6 months. Plus, all that walking, sheesh, that is intimidating! Especially since I’m a big fan of the sitting. We’ll see.
8. I kick tookas at trivial pursuit and want to get some of the new card sets.

Okay, I tag no one, but Mz. J still needs to update her *&($#!!&* blog!

Since I’m on the topic of updating blogs (see, transition issues! I told ya so.)
I’m going to update the side bar on this one. So, if you are linking here and would like for me to return the favor, shout in the ye comments. OR if you have moved! I know some of you have recently. (You can run, but you can’t hide, lol.) I’d like to get everyone up who is linking, it does not seem right to have it so incomplete.

If you have read this far, you deserve some kind of award! Have a cuppa on me!

Happy day my comrades!

(Yes, I post this every year, but, hey! Who am I to break my own traditions! This one stands the tests of time.)
Mother’s Day Proclamation
Arise, then, women of this day!
Arise all women who have hearts,
Whether your baptism be that of water or of tears
Say firmly:
“We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant
agencies,
Our husbands shall not come to us reeking of carnage,
For caresses and applause.
Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn
All that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy
and patience.
We women of one country
Will be too tender of those of another country
To allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs.
From the bosom of the devastated earth a voice goes up with
Our own. It says, “Disarm, Disarm!”
The sword of murder is not the balance of justice!
Blood does not wipe out dishonor
Nor violence indicate possession.
As men have often forsaken the plow and the anvil at the
summons of war.
Let women now leave all that may be left of home
For a great and earnest day of counsel.
Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the
dead.
Let them then solemnly take counsel with each other as to
the means
Whereby the great human family can live in peace,
Each bearing after his own time the sacred impress, not of
Caesar,
But of God.
In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask
That a general congress of women without limit of
nationality
May be appointed and held at some place deemed most
convenient
And at the earliest period consistent with its objects
To promote the alliance of the different nationalities,
The amicable settlement of international questions.
The great and general interests of peace.

Fallen

This has really thrown me for a loop.

As a woman, fiber artist, Vermonter and survivor of domestic abuse, this hits close to the bone on many levels. I feel really very compelled to do something…
I don’t know what that something is… But I want to do something. I feel the need. I don’t want this to go down as just another statistic. I want more than my heart to be going out to Gwen’s friends and family.

I believe in miracles!

April 28th, 2007

My friend has her juice back on!!!
(I know I keep referring to her, not by her name, but as “my friend”… go here to read why.)
I am so stunned by all you beautiful people!
The good thoughts, the positive energy, the green energy you all sent, really made a difference.
I can’t even begin to express what a difference you all made.
I don’t know who you all are, but you do. You all deserve the world.
Thank you all for hearing me! Words can not express what you have done.
Something very miraculous happened. More than I could have ever known when I got her permission to do this.

You are the beautiful people!
Thank you!!!

You have changed the world!

XO!
