Valerie

July 30th, 2007

I heard you were wearing a green dress.
Someone painted your nails pink.
That you were made into something you weren’t.
You got dressed to the nines to run to the store for smokes.
I’m sure you are angry that they didn’t touch up your roots.

I walked outside last night, and smelled the summer air.
It reminded me of you. Walking swiftly to get home by ten.
All of the rights of passage, we shared.
Leaving our girlhood behind to become women.

I can’t eulogize you, not yet. I’m not ready to open that up and become paralyzed with grief.
I will forever remember you, us, then.
It will always be a part of me.
I love you.

(Hugs) That was a beautiful post, not a recitation of facts but a real portrait that you created that captured the essence of your friendship.

It is a terrible loss of a very intelligent woman.
I am a childhood friend- born at the same time in the same hospital.

Valerie was my distant cousin, the second cousin now I have lost at age 35, both female as I am. I know she is in a better place, and bringing smiles to the souls around her. Young death makes you realize all too well, that life is so precious, yet so unpredictable. Bless you Valerie. You were and still are loved.

What you wrote about Valerie here is beautiful. It is more than awful that she is gone, but we have a lot of fond memories of her. Valerie was like our center meeting point when we were teenagers—the center of our universe back then. We’ve all been scattered about since that time period, but it’s nice to know that we all loved her very much. I can feel her smiling knowing that.

 Hello, I met Valerie when she was on vacation out here with her dad in Los Angeles when I was in a band called “the Rosetta Stones” and working at Quasi Glam Custom Clothing store on Melrose, I think in 1992 or 1993, not to sure, I think it was the same year NIN Broken came out, she had bought it for me and wrote a little love note on it for me before she was leaving. We had the best time running around hollywood and L.A. and showing her some of the sights, going to a few clubs, she was so full of life and fun. I have always held a little torch for her, we had such an amazing time when she was out here. We kept in touch for a couple of years but we were unable to ever to get together again, just bad timing I suppose, distance and other relationships on both sides, and then I lost her number and adresses in my organizer when I lost it some years ago, and was unable to reach her again even after searching for her for quite some time, I would still do a name search online for her from time to time and was unsuccessful I didn’t know where she had moved to so it was difficult. I felt like searching again today and was saddened to have actually finally found her when I found your site, I remembered the CD and have been playing it and I cried. She was someone special, she will always be remembered in my heart.
