my sister once heard a commotion on her porch and opeened the door to find a skunk running around with a small jar stuck over it's head. Sorry I don't remember the rest of the story. Hopefully, a lot of imaginative people read this. Also, one got under my house and died once. Things can always get worse it seems.

A skunk. In your house. Good heavens. You know that's a cute image, aside from the stink. I always wanted to keep a pet skunk (de-stinkified, of course!), they're just cute little critters.

The oldtime cure for asthma attacks was to keep skunk glands in a bottle: uncork and whiff as needed. Isn't it nice to know it's useful? (um...)

My dog got skunked too, but I had the presence of mind to leave her outside while I went out to get deskunk stuff. The clerk so graciously informed me that I needed deskunking too. The recipe my vet gave me: 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 quart hydrogen peroxide, small squirt of your favorite liquid soap. It worked quite well, I even mixed up more to spray my walls because the damn smell is invasive. I will warn you though: hydrogen peroxide is freakin' damn cold! Bad enough to stink like a skunk, but then to stand nekkid in the shower and pour that stuff over my head??? Eeeeeee yawww! And here's a link to why the baking soda, hydrogen peroxide recipe is supposed to work better than other recipes: http://www.harmonyanimalwellness.com/UsefulInfoPages/deskunk.html

The thing with skunk smell is if you are really close to it (I'm thinking when it was under our porch right next to our bedroom, but inside the house is probably more so) it goes beyond the typical skunk smell into something that makes you want to throw up.

92 in Vermont, right? WTF? It's going to be a long summer and I think I mean that literally.
