easy like Sunday mornin’

April 1st, 2007

After what has seemed like some manic posting lately, (Yes, more than one post a week constitutes hyper-post-activity in these parts.) I’ve fallen quiet. It has been a blur of activity here. On Thursday, I was brave and went to the DMV. I’m Legal now! (Terribly exciting! It equates to way less panic attacks wile driving. Not that I was driving wile illegal… *cough*, *cough*, *cough, cough*)
No trip to the big city would be complete without a stop at The Knitting Studio. Where I was treated like a freaking Rock star by the lovely Brigette. I swear to maude, the woman made me blush. I often wonder if people are a bit disappointed after they meet me in the flesh, I know I’m much more attractive and personable on the blog. Anyway, I left there very happy, a bit red in the face, and with a bit of library & stash enhancement.

My very own copy of Sensational knitted socks. (Yes, I know, I’m way behind the times, as number 2 is out… But it is always hard for me to justify book purchases for myself; when it seems like the kids are always needing something… I’ve gone a while without buying such frivolous things, and I felt like I deserved a treat.) And some Atrful yarns, in candy, colorway, illegible. Note: I never have to justify fiber purchases. Nope.

(Thursday also brought My plastic bag yarn being blogged on Craft: W00T!! That made me a happy camper.)

Friday brought a trip to the kid’s favorite playground (Score one mom point, pass go, collect 200 free minutes of time alone in the bathroom.) A trip to the garden store, and seed starting.

Yesterday, well, yesterday… Yesterday didn’t go as I had planned in my head. I woke up early, (5ish.) got to dyeing, poked around drank coffee (sorry Amy, for mentioning the C word)… Then my SIL called to say she was in the area and was going to stop over…
*scheech* I had to put down everything I was doing to move piles and clear paths, you know, to have the house semi presentable for when she came over… (It is a sad state of affairs when I have to clean to make the place even ‘family ready’ ) Anyway, it was worth it as the yougins were happy to see their Auntie.
After she left, we packed up and all went to the grocery store.
Cautionary tale to follow……
I normally do the grocery shopping alone… There are many reasons I don’t like to take two toddlers to the grocery with me; with or without their dad… There are many reasons why I don’t like to take their dad to the grocery. The foremost reason, for these two hours a week, I don’t answer to Mom, I can go about my business, and get something done, without interruption. (It’s blissful, really.) I figured, since I am planning on going to knit night this week, I could buck up and do the shopping with everyone…. Plus, two hours of free time knitting beats two hours of grocery shopping any day. I digress. I don’t know who is worse to take to the grocery, Mr. Pipps or the Pippletts. Seriously. Between the three of them, I wound up with So.Much.Crap. in the cart. Crap I wouldn’t buy in 100 years.
We wound up with such delights as Shrek shit (don’t get me wrong, I love me some Shrek, but not the crap that is in this box) and Scooby Snacks… Mr. Pipps did his fair share of cart enhancement, too… Tho, he is prone to reading labels and not putting junk in the cart, for which I am grateful, but that stuff comes with a price tag… Which, brings me to the kicker of the story…. ZOINKS! Not enough cash on hand… Thanks, ya’ll. See, I always have a rough guesstimate of how much I’m spending, and I’m hyper aware of how much that is… But, between the three of them, and the stuff I was not able to get out of the cart, I was clueless…… Luckily, I had some credit cards on me, and was able to pay the difference that way (split up between two cards, nonetheless! Talk about embarrassing!) Minute, in the grand scheme of the world, and I feel like such a glut, with all this food we have. (She says, Guiltily munching on some Scooby snacks…)
The Moral of the story…. Leave home without them (the family, not the credit cards.)
Not to be overshadowed by moral number two…. Scooby snacks are graham crackers, not hash, like I had always thought. Goes to show, I can still learn something new every day.

XO!

Great book!! I got mine at spinning guild, cause Charlene Schurch is a member of the guild. Even got mine autographed. Not sure how I ended up such an autograph junky, but seems like most of my fibery books have them.

As for taking folks to the grocery store - ackk! So much better to go alone. I told my kids “if you ask for it, I won’t get it” and stuck with that. Ok, mostly stuck with it. Harder to do that with the husband though. I also made my kids practice reading and math skills at the grocery store - ok, so the two that could. The third is dyslexic so that wasn’t possible in the store.

And you so deserve your book!!

Hahahaahah, it’s so funny. We have been vacation-deprived for many years now due to the insane tuition we’ve been paying, and even though I don’t have young kids, I can so relate to the grocery store thing in a slightly different way: Millers’ big night out consists of getting some Chinese food and going to the grocery store. Sad, really. LOL

Only because I hear your kids on the phone on an almost daily basis I can’t imagine all 4 of you in a grocery store together. What was your blood pressure? ;) And damn woman. You ARE a rockstar!

You ARE a rock star and you are BETTER in real life.

Hooray for legal and a yarn shopping trip. It’s ok about the Coffee word. Husbeast is sitting here blissfully drinking his wondefully strong coffee. I’m ok just smelling the gorgeous aroma.

Seed starting! ‘doh! I am such a slacker.

OMG the grocery store. you need to bring duct tape. Tape all arms down to the sides and there is no way they will put crap in the cart! See, easy solution. Lucky you going to knit nite. You deserve it.

My husband used to sneak Little Debbie snacks into the cart. Back when I used to let him come with me. I enjoy the solitary nature of the grocery shopping myself.
    :)
And don’t we all? Look more attractive and personable on the blog? When all is said and done, we are just people. And that is terribly disappointing! Really!
    :)
I thought your seeds were brownies with nuts. I must be hungry!

Its such a good book! Do I need volume 2? …… maybe! Nice to start thinking about the garden, even though the wind is so strong & cold here, infact such a cold north east wind is usually reserved for the start of the cricket season & that is still 3 weeks away!

That’s my first-bought and favorite (and most used) sock book - very very useful! A perfect library addition. The yarn looks scrummy too!
I also usually do the grocery alone - with kids, I get talked into so much random JUNK! With husband, I end up spending so much more… If I try to say “No” they make me feel like the money-nazi; when I give in, I get blamed for blowing the budget. Grrr. Better to go it alone…
Congrats on the CRAFT mention - I saw that too!

I’ve got Scooby Snacks that are inch-long chunks of string cheese. These showed up courtesy of the substitution policy of my supermarket for deliveries. Now I’m thinking of buying them on purpose.

I bought the same book and I don’t even make socks. There was just something about it that I couldn’t resist. It’s a beautiful book.

I adore going to the grocery store alone. When I take even one of the boys they see ALL the crap that I ignore. Love how “they” put the spider man cereal at eye level for 4-6 year olds. On the rare occasion that the husband goes too, he takes his own cart, goes his own way and buys all the same stuff I do. Planning? Not so much. And you are a rockstar- do NOT let anybody tell you different.

Glad you treated yourself! I don’t like going to the grocery store with the my husband and kids. Things happen to get thrown int the carriage while I’m not looking and mostly it’s my husband and not my kids doing the throwing!

I think I’d rather not eat (which, frankly wouldn’t be a tragedy) than be forced to grocery shop with the kids. Sometimes, if I have the time and I’m desperate, I will drive 10 miles to Stop & Shop just so I can put them in one of the carts that has a fire engine on the front, because then they’ll sit in their seats for most of the trip and they can’t reach the food on the shelves.

And now I’ve got that Fun Lovin’ Criminals song about Scooby Snacks going through my head. . .

You ARE a rock star! ;o) Good for you for (finally) getting yourself a book - and sock books are not frivolous. Bite yer tongue ;op

Dobby hasn’t been allowed to go shopping with me in years. Although, now she has her own $$ and works at a grocery story so guess what? At least one bag of junk per night she works. NOT good. RR comes shopping with me and buys what he wants but then…he’s paying for it so it’s all good ;o)

I decided to not start my own seeds this year and will be purchasing well-developed seedlings at the farmers market in about a month…ohcrap I only have a month left to get the garden ready! I haven’t touched it in two years! *panic*

Good morning Ms.Pip! We were discussing you at KS Knit Nite last week in regards to Eliz Zimmerman’s “Nether Garments” and POOF… in you walked the very next day! Wow! I can’t tell ya how excited I was to finally meet you! Sorry to have made you blush, but indeed you have had ‘ROCK STAR’ status in my book for quite some time– even without the pink hair!
Thanks for joining our little group last night and THANKS A GAZILLION for the fiber treats!! Woooo hooooo!! Spinning on my days off!
I’ll email ya about the dying gig and lets talk about doing a knit-a-long with the long john’s this summer!

I hear you about going to the grocery store alone. I go over the budget and hire a babysitter once a week to get to the store alone in the summer! The money I save on groceries without them pays for the sitter! I am glad you met Brigette. She is so great- it is hard to visit her and not buy something though! I hope to join you at knit night in the city one night soon! Heather

Yay! I’m not the ONLY one who doesn’t have the current books! I, too, always seem to have other, more pressing things to purchase. My birthday treat to myself this year was the Yarn Harlot’s last book (Knitting Rules). Who knows when I’ll get the current one??? :-)

I’m with you on the grocery store/ alone time, too.
