pink is the word, is the word, is the word

March 29th, 2006

the handspun yarn shop has been updated.

this week i have added 4 bulky thick and thin singles

and two coils

roving and batts have been added to the fibers page as well.

and there is always the handy “view all” link

wanna know about updates sooner?

hook up with the pippi mailing list.

empress dork

March 28th, 2006

it is no secret that i’m a big dork, further evidence is the joy i’m getting from my new 1″ buttons from MYMY (FYI, they will be re-open on friday.)

and to bring my dorkatude to new heights, i made new matching yarn!

it is also no secret that i love making coils

another not hidden fact about myself, is that i love pink. and pink + black is my new favorite combo.
(it would have been my new hair color, if the pink would have turned out better….)

i’ve been trying to stick to a list type situation, you know, crossing off tasks, etc.
that lasted one day. i failed miserably at it yesterday.
i have a bunch of stuff to be getting done tho, like playing domestic revolutionary and getting this stack of dishes done.
i also need to work out a better spot to take photos. i’ve been incredibly unhappy with the way they have been turning out lately.

it is supposed to be decent, weather wise, again today. i suspect there will be much running in and out of the house by the youngins and much mud on my floor.

fiber page update!

March 27th, 2006

i updated the fibers section of pippi today

a new nightfall of diamonds
and
a purple & black (with tinkle) number, called trip the lights

my huge wool order finally got here! (that didn’t take long, once i got them on the phone!) so, back to the dye pots.
it is such a beautiful day, that i have wool outside drying! almost spring?! :)

hemp in color!

March 27th, 2006

it has been a few slow moving days, followed by a flurry of activity!
my bulk wool order STILL has yet to arrive, BUT,boogie came to my rescue, like she has so many times before!
speaking of boogie, i ordered yet MORE plant fibers from spunky eclectic, that came this week; add that to a good amount of dyes from dharma trading and i have….

needless to say, i’m rather excited, and my head is swimming with blending ideas…
~

ALSO, i’ve posted about this elsewhere, and will post about it more!

steph is auctioning off her cartoon!

click to be taken to the auction

and donating the money!

I will donate 100% of the winning bid, after I receive it, to two places, half of the amount going to each:

1) Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and

2) The Oglala Sioux Tribe
at Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Their President, Cecilia Fire Thunder, has
spoken of an intention to build a women’s reproductive health clinic on
tribal land.

pass it on!!

~
well, i have alot of playing catch up to do if i want to update on wed.

stuff!!

March 21st, 2006

not a whole lot to report on in these parts.
i did get an excellent photo yesterday from croshay design that prompted me to update my
customer creations page… i have more work to do on it, i just need to find where i put the other photos i have. maybe later today the children will give me a chance to do it.

top to bottom:

1.
made by croshay from this here yarn. (bad photo of the yarn! it was one of those not possible to capture properly with a camera.)

not only is the hat sublimely perfect, and i am so very touched by what she said about working with it. when i hear and see stuff like this, it makes me feel like i’m doing something right.

she has more views up on her flickr. feel free to go tell her how much you lover it!

2.
from jenn at blue alvarez. for more of jenn’s awesome knitting patterns look here!

3.
from sharleen, designer of mmm-fruit

a wee bit of spinning, but not much, because, alas; my wool that was ordered over 2.5 weeks ago is still not here.
(i’ll refrain from ranting about them)

total tink

because my pal tender inside wanted to see a coil with think in the whole thing…

spring is supposedly here, but i’m NOT buying it!
it is freezing (or should i say, well below freezing; today…)

some of this, some of that and none of the other

March 18th, 2006

contrary to what my knitting needles might say, i have been known to knit a bit. (not so much lately, at all, i admit. and i apologize profoundly to my seldom fondled tools. but, we had some good quality time this past week.

i finished these fulled slippers

the fiber content was so random, especially within the purple, i’m afraid that the stitch definition won’t ever go away.
but, i’m going to give them another go in the washing machine, just in case.
they are helping me gear up for the fiber trends clogs.
i’m just waiting on my wool to get here (still!) so, i can spin the yarn for them.

not a whole lot of spinning going on either. (re: wool order!)
except some coily numbers.

wormwood

not much else going on in these parts, aside from crazy stalker drama, which i hope will end asap.

time to stich n’ bitch (ooh, should i be on the lookout for SFSE?)

March 15th, 2006

i finished my yarn for Blythe

it is sooper snazzy

lots of silk, mohair, and tinkle

17/18 WPI

my biggest quandry is, what on earth i do with this yarn

i’m just clueless.

i’m not too fond of it, there is a day i’ll never get back.

i’m hoping that if i use it, i might like it.

it is sooper textural, silk noil, with tinkle and a daub of wool.

156 yards of bulky wt.

today, i’m on the edge of my seat, waiting for UPS to bring me my new cards, and hopefully some wool. (please, oh please, wool get here!)

i thought i would share this great picture that Kay sent me, of her cat Dub.

Like dub music, she’s missing some parts (tail, toe, end of her ear). We think she was attacked by rats when she was a kitten before we found her. She’s more than made up for her traumatic start. She huge.

bumpy frog

March 12th, 2006

my forays in knitting have been unadventurous and futile lately.
i wanted to make a special person, some slipper socks; using this yarn, (’i caught you a delicious bass’) that came from these batts but it just isn’t working.. they are working up far too large, and i’m not clear of the felt-y-ness of the yarn.. (here is the one instance where a felted swatch wouldn’t help in the least, since the fiber content is utterly random…)

i suppose i’ll make some new yarn, in ‘her’ colors, i just hope that it won’t take away from the ’special-ness’ of the project.
(i suppose, it is all about intention tho, right??)

i’ve had some adventures in the land of silk noils.
lets just say, i won’t be doing much more of it, any time soon…

too textured for my taste.

and hard to capture!

but you can clearly see it in batt form.

(45% silk noil, 45% wool, 10% nylon)

in other news, i chopped off a few pounds of hair last night.
i’m a baldhead again. (well, not totally bald; it is about 1/4 of an inch long, except for what used to be bangs.)
it is cute and butchy and i love it. it is especially fun to touch.
it makes me feel a bit spunky, like 30 again!

today is the day i need to get to the grocery and that jazz.
it would be really nice to play a round of disc golf but it looks like it may rain.
(then get cold again) boo-hiss winter! c’mon spring!
