gettin busy

December 30th, 2005
it has been hard trying to get back into my groove.
and i hate to admit this, and if you ever call me on it, i will flat out DENY that i ever said it
i get more spinning done whilst not on the internets.

in my list from the other day i had said that i wanted to dye 5-10 lbs of fiber. that didn’t happen. i think i did about 3. hard to tell, since i don’t have my scale here.

under the sea & woodland critter
&

this is a HUGE amount, over a pound i’d say
i’m unsure about how i want to spin this one. a massive amount of 2ply or a HUGE hank of bulky.
i just don’t know & i’m sure the decision will be made with a simple coin toss.

some of the fruits. snapped while on the bobbins, no glamor shots of these today as if i didn’t have enough problems with photos before. i can’t get a good picture in this place to save my life

there is woodland critter
&

under the sea
which wound up being 136 yards, and the bobbin was barley 1/4 full. WOOT.
it was only the fourth time i got to use that wheel and i think i’m finally getting the hang of it. i need to predraft more than i’m used to. hopefully we will become fine friends

and!
my first fiber friday in eons.

the topic was, new year’s resolutions.
more details over there.clicky on the pic
i will say, if there ever was a photograph that did not do a yarn justice, this would be it.
the pinks! the chocolates! the greens! the creams! this one will be a keeper or a gift. my heart pounds when i look at it. lol.

well, i should get off the internets for a while. i have more fiber to get done.

cute cuddly soffties!

i ♥ wooden bobbins

this spectacular specimen of function & form was sent to me by the ever so lovely felt fobix so many lovely treats! thank you!!

fiber, sooooft, soft, soft fiber; which i’m assuming are from your babies, R? a felted soap! (which, if anyone remembers mine that i brought with me to MG 04, hers are worlds better!) a very cute bead thing for my hairdo (or hair don’t, lol) also, for my hairdo, this beautiful beautiful scarf!

i’ve been wearing it since i opened the box up. it has been keeping my nappy hairs out of my way.
the pictures really don’t come close to doing it justice.
she makes these (and alot of other lovely things on these crazy machines
i can’t come close on my glass washboard!

thank you so very much R! a proper thank you coming soon!

in updatey home news, we are kind of settling.
i haven’t been able to get down more than 3 loads of stuff. matt’s mother flaked on me yesterday. and today the mountain will be un passable, even with 4WD.
i have wool here, but no wheels or dyes.
i have canned goods here, but no can opener.
so funny. but, i guess one would say that could be par for the course lately.
i’m very grateful to have utilities.

the funniest thing, and i suppose it isn’t funny if you aren’t me. (but, i’ll share anyway)
is this

a gas fireplace.
so funny to me, after hauling wood for months and months. most everything revolved around the whole wood deal.

if it wasn’t so blizzardy out, i’d hike up there to get the kids snow suits, dyes, some knitting needles & the can opener. hopefully it will stop before dark.

rustic yarn

i have mentioned that i did do a hair of spinning and dyeing over my, well, let’s call it hiatus. (sounds better than exile & i can’t think of any other words to describe the past few months.
with water hauled from the well & dye pots placed on our wood stove
i present, the melmin collection.

2 skeins of 2 ply & one bulky t&t.

i’m unsure of how i’m going to utilize it. i’ve already made a variable army of hats, most of which are being sent off to the mitten tree. i’ve also made a bunch of socks (including socks from some bulky 2 ply that i spun up from random scraps i had in my vast collection of wool that anxiously awaits to be drum carded. one day, ohhh lordissa, one day.)
~as soon as i find the pair of socks that i made from less than 140 yards of 2 ply bulky, i’ll post a pic and try to get a pattern out. they are uber warm & great for the chilly mornings & shockingly not unconformable in my boots. they are just anklets and knit up in about 4 hours. humm, the allure of the quick knit makes me now want to turn this yarn into socks. haha. (/thinking out loud)

hope everyone is having a brilliant day!
the sun is out here, and the wind seems calm.

i am so overwhelmed by all of you.
your kindness, gifts, love and support has brought tears to my eyes. (the good kind of course.)
i almost don’t know what to say, besides thank you.

a brief update on our situation:
we got our phone yesterday; hence me on the computer.
still no water or septic hook up.
we have a furnace, but no oil tank yet.
so, i’m becoming quite proficient at the art of wood stove.

having the phone is really key. now i’m not so isolated & i can now call and pester everyone to find out why the work isn’t getting done.
(they have already disconnected their answering machine after i left one message yesterday. ha.)
i really feel like i’ve been living in a cave the past 3+ months. once we got electricity i was at least able to listen to NPR and get news.
i am in total shock and horror that dubba hasn’t been thrown out of office yet. it really amazes me.

i feel like such a different person than i was sept ember first.
this experience has changed me forever.
i foresee a change in how i run my little yarn-ness. (once we get water and i can dye again)
i plan to donate far more of my proceeds to social justice type issues than i was. it is easy to feel forsaken in this world. and i would be throwing away the growth that i’ve experienced if i failed to spread some compassion to all sentient beings.

first, something of urgency save tookie!he has been nominated for the nobel peace prize, for the 6th time
tell arrrrnooold to grant clemency.

on a different note; it is snowing at a good clip so i decided to take a picture of the very top of our driveway.
let’s hope i still remember how to post a picture. ha!

good to be back into the world, even if it is dial up.
i’ve missed you all!
i send hugs and love!
